Philosophy of History

Adam Tooze, Marci Shore and Bill Rankin host a fortnightly reading group in the philosophy of history. The reading group will be focusing on late twentieth-century authors in the spring of 2012. In the Fall of 2012 the cycle will resume with early 18th century texts. Intended primarily for graduate students and Faculty please contact or to join our classesv2 list.


The reading group will be hosting a conference in the spring of 2013 on the “Philosophy of history in the Atlantic world c. 1850 to the present”.


For 2012/2013: Adam Tooze and Paul North are developing a graduate course tentatively entitled:

 “Philosophy of history in Germany from Benjamin to Alexander Kluge”


Fall 2012 Paul Franks and Adam Tooze are developing plans for an event around Franz Rosenzweig, Hegel and the crisis of historicism.
